Tinian Marble Craftsmanship
The art of extracting and processing marble in Tinos, influenced by Byzantine art,
was fully developed during the late Venetian Rule (17th c.).
It is about the construction of an object, self-contained or part of a larger construction,
made of marble (extraction of raw material, squaring, design, decoration, assembly, installation) and its relevant social and economic aspects
(workshops, tools and techniques, machinery, apprenticeship, clientele, products, mentalities).
