“The Soul of the Land” _ Vana Xenou, National Garden of Athens _ 2010
Vana Xenou has placed 19 large-scale installations comprising 85 sculpted pieces
in the National Gardens. These works incorporate a sense of place being, as they are,
scattered around the entire National Gardens, and new works have been especially
created for the exhibition in Athens.
The main feature of this artist’s work is the dialogue between history and myths.
References today to the Greek Mysteries are not references to some soul-less body.
The exhibition is based on the idea of taking a modern look at the sources
of great cultures, which promotes the timeless importance of the initiation process
and what it can show us, what it can reveal and what it can teach us.
